New drug for erectile dysfunction now available ?!

Question:
New drug for erectile dysfunction now available ?!

Answer:
KUALA LUMPUR: A new oral treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED), called tadalafil, is now available in Malaysia. The drug is said to be effective up to 36 hours after consumption, longer than what is currently available. “The longer hours of efficacy mean that men with ED do not have to worry so much about when the drug will wear off. Thus, they would be able to regain the spontaneity in sexual intercourse that they once enjoyed,” said Dr Gerald Brock, associate professor of the department of surgery in the urology division at the University of Western Ontario in Canada, who was speaking at the launch of the drug at Carcosa Seri Negara yesterday. According to Dr Brock, studies conducted on 242 Asian men in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia showed that 86% of ED patients had improved erections with the drug, while 71% reported successful sexual intercourse attempts throughout a 36-hour period. “The drug has also shown little or no side-effects on patients. And the mild side-effects, such as headache and indigestion in patients who do develop them, would reduce in time,” said Dr Brock. In Malaysia, it is estimated that about 2.2 million people suffer from ED. “People have to realise that most ED cases are caused by underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and other vascular diseases. As the figures show, 30% of men with ED are diabetic,” he said. “Smoking too has also been shown to increase the risk of ED. About 78% of Malaysian men with ED are smokers. Thus, ED is an indicator of a man’s health, and is not a normal consequence of ageing,” he said. http://thestar.com.my/
