Question:
just to check what is the incidence of erectile dysfunction and propecia
use. I have been on this medication for 2-3 years and I have fairly severe
erectile dysfunction. Any linkage?
Answer:
You should check out clinical research, and not anecdotes then. The
benefit of looking at research is that in clinical trials, subjects don't
know whether they're getting sugar pills (e.g., placebos) or the active
drug.
In a study of about 1300 subjects using the above "placebo control"
methodology, incidence of sexual side effects was about 2% of subjects on
the active drug. If you informally poll users here and on alt.baldspot, ot
alt.hairloss.d and elsewhere, you'll probably get a lot larger number of
guys complaining of it, however, there's no way to know for SURE whats
causing their ED (is it the propecia? Is the power of suggestion? Is it
something else?)
I have taken propecia for 5+ years, I am about a NW2.5, and have not had
any side effects from propecia at all, sexual or otherwise.
